The Estate
Welcome to our Estate
Located in the heart of the Cape Winelands near Stellenbosch, Neethlingshof is a historic wine estate with roots reaching back to 1692. Surrounded by the Bottelary Hills and Papegaaiberg Mountain, and cooled by the breezes of nearby False Bay, the estate offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich heritage, and modern winemaking excellence.
LEGACY
A Legacy of Craftsmanship
Grapes were already being cultivated here by 1705. Today, over three centuries later, Neethlingshof continues its tradition of quality winemaking — combining time-honoured techniques with new-world precision and care. Our wines are vegan-certified and crafted entirely on the estate.
TERROIR
Terroir-Driven Excellence
Neethlingshof spans 278 hectares, with around 100 hectares under vine. The estate boasts 8 distinct terroirs defined by varying slopes, aspects, and altitudes (ranging from 65m to 282m above sea level). Soils such as Tukulu, Oakleaf, and Villafonté offer high potential for viticulture, while complex site conditions allow for optimal cultivar placement and full flavour expression.
ROOTS
Soil Preparation & Vineyard Practices
We focus on enhancing soil depth and health to support deep root systems. Given the natural acidity of our soils, we apply both chemical and physical amelioration to ensure root penetration — an essential practice in the face of climate change. We plant cultivars best suited to each site and use cover crops and canopy management to reduce the need for chemical inputs.
WEATHER
Climate & Vineyards
Our vineyards benefit from predominant south and south-west facing slopes that invite cooling breezes from both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. These afternoon winds moderate temperatures, allowing for slow ripening and balanced grape development.
